The series is loosely based on a popular serial on Star Network's Bengali general entertainment channel Star Jalsha, and has been written by Mitali Bhattacharya. It has been directed by Ravi Ojha and Zaman Habeeb is the creative director. Asked about taking the title from the popular song in the film Delhi 6, Benerjee said it was actually a folk song of Chattisgarh which had been adapted by AR Rahman for the film. But he said all permissions had been taken for using the song and any royalties that were due had been paid for this purpose. When he was asked why there were stereotypical twists and turns in serials whenever they seemed to get dull or lose viewership, he said drama was critical to any series. He also added that series are created on a daily basis and, thus, is difficult to predict how long its life will last or what shape the story will take. Currently, Star Plus telecasts Mahayatra from 7-8 pm. The show will come to an end next one week. Meanwhile, the 7 pm slot will have a new show, which is yet to get confirmed. Sasural Genda Phool stars Ragini Khanna and Jai Soni in the main roles, supported by Sudhir Pandey, Anita Khanwal, Mahesh Thakur, Sooraj Thapar, Shruti Ulfat and Supriya Pilgaonkar. IndianTelevision
